Does anyone know of a good literature reference on the web or otherwise for tuning PID.

I found it to be very useful simulation software for demonstrating the tuning of a three term controller. The brains behind the package -David St Clair (retired Du Pont process control engineer) - was very helpful when I was looking at it a few years back.
If you have access to Matlab then it is relatively straight forward to build your own 3-term control loop using Simulink.
