Monitor Issues -new laptop
« on: September 17, 2008, 09:43:27 AM »
Hi,

I know this is not a software problem, but maybe you have a solution.

Recently I got a new Laptop (XP) and now I have problem when in
"monitoring." The connection drops all the time.

With the old laptop(XP) there are no issues at all.

Any sugestions?

Do you mean your new computer is a Vista? We recently have similar experience on a Vista PC and we are investigating as to what causes the software that works perfectly on the XP to break when running on the Vista. We believe it probably has something to do with the serial driver interface with the USB to RS232 converter driver on Windows Vista and we are currently working with the vendor Serialio.com to find a solution. We will report once a solution is found.

No,

Both my laptops are on XP, and like I said I can't figure out why the old one works Ok and the new one when I try to monitor a PLC, in the best scenario works for 1 min and then, the loosing connection message pops up.

I welcome any suggestion,

Thank you,

Dan

Are you using the same USB-to-RS232 converter? The same driver? What's the brand name of the USB-to-RS232 converter?

Hi,

Yes, same USB converter, and same driver (FTDI brand).

More. looks like is transferring programs without issues, or at list up to now it never drop the connection during a  transfer.

I have problems only with monitoring.

Is it the same PLC program running on both PLC? Just wondering if any part of your PLC program is writing out of the comm port and therefore interfering with the the monitoring (since transfer has no problem). You could experiment it by transferring a blank program or simple program (e.g. the clock.pc6 program) to the PLC and then perform online monitoring. If it doesn't break with blank or simple program then there could be a gremlin somewhere in your code that need to be examined.
