comms through RS485
« on: July 12, 2006, 10:45:11 AM »
Hello, I have a t100MD2424 running in an operation.

I currently have a Maple systems touchscreen on the RS232 port acting as a master, and a I7018 and an E10 running on a network on the Com3 RS485 port.  I would like to be able to monitor the PLC with the online monitoring function of Tri-Logi off of the RS485 port.  I have a RS232-RS485 converter to connect my laptop to the com3 port/network.  Is it possible to hook up this way or do I have halt the PLC from sending and recieving commands on the network while I have the laptop connect.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, you do have to halt the T100MD+ PLC from sending host link command on the RS485 port so that you can monitor it from TRiLOGI. If you have a spare input you can connect a switch to it so that when you turn on the switch, the PLC program will stop sending host link command on its RS485 port. After you disconnect the PC from the PLC's RS485 port you can then turn OFF this particular input to signal the program to continue to talk to the E10 as slave.

Another way is to use a RS232 A-B switch to switch its RS232 port between the Maple Systems HMI and the TRiLOGI PC in order to monitor the PLC.
