Technical support / Double HSC on single encoder Fx2424
« on: April 22, 2015, 03:49:00 PM »
I have an application where it would be helpful to have two separate quadrature HSC channels counting from the same encoder input.

One counter would maintain absolute position and the other an incremental resetting counter. I could reset either without effecting the other.

I am thinking just putting the A/B signals into pins 1&2 for HSC1 and jumpering the inputs from HSC1 to the inputs of HSC2.

Any problem with this?

Thanks.

Technical support / Building automation PC GUI software
« on: March 11, 2015, 09:35:13 AM »
I have an application to control the an industrial process by time schedule 24/7/365. The PLC end is simple. I would like to use PC over Ethernet to update the PLC schedule from a nice GUI that is user friendly and available across the network or even on smartphones.

Do you have any experience with 3rd party or open source software to do this, seems like building automation folks must have this off the shelf. No point in reinventing the wheel.

Thanks

Technical support / Re:Stepmove question
« on: December 12, 2014, 09:11:16 AM »
I appreciate the information.

I understand the STEPMOVE command computes the velocity profile for a move based on the STEPSPEED command last given before the STEPMOVE comand is encountered.

Once the STEPMOVE is executing and is at full velocity , STEPSPEED can be changed repeatedly during the STEPMOVE. If STEPSPEED is sent after the move has started in either the Accel or decel portions of the move the new STEPSPEED will be ignored.

Will it cause any problems with the move if STEPSPEED is sent during the Accel or Decel portions of the move? If so what are the problems?

Is their a flag somewhere that can be read to indicate a STEPMOVE is in the Accel/Decel portion (0) or is now in the maximum velocity portion (1) of a move?

Thanks

Technical support / Stepmove question
« on: December 10, 2014, 01:39:55 PM »
What is the minimum speed in steps per second the Fx2424 can use with a Stepmove command?

What speed will the Stepspeed default to if the stepspeed is set lower than the minimum speed?

If a Stepstop is executed during a stemove command, is there any need to clear a buffer that may have a remaining steps from the terminated stepmove -  i.e. like steps left in the move buffer for example which will effect a later stepmove command?

Thank you.

Thanks for getting this done rapidly.

I have the same problem's is Gary is experiencing.

I have tested the work around and found that the PLC must be connected and you must download a PLC program to the connected PLC for the cut and paste to work correctly.

The development software needs to have a pull down to allow selecting target PLC type if a PLC is not connected which is common in development.

When can we expect the updated software to be released?

Thanks for  your efforts to resolve this problem as soon as possible.

Good info Gary. The problem is worse than I thought. Triangle has acted rapidly in the past to fix problems that are hurting us in project development.

I trust they will rise to the challenge and fix this issue or at the least give us a schedule on an improved release.

I have done a similar work around today which gets it done, but can be very dicey if you copy and paste just a bit off or you get hung up half way through the process!

I think Triangle updating the software to run on a current Java is critical for the product line future for me.

Thanks
Chris

Technical support / TL7 Editor copy paste bug in floating point
« on: December 08, 2014, 04:08:25 PM »
When editing a custom function I have this behavior which is new to me:

If I highlight a section of code that begins with a floating point variable (Example: G#_REEL_WIDTH = 4.5) by holding down the mouse button and selecting the text, it highlights in yellow like it should. When I release the mouse button the text is unselected and the cursor jumps to the top left of the custom function window! I can't get the text in to the copy buffer to paste it elsewhere.

I am running windows 7 which is up to date
I am running Java SE 1.4.2_19
trilogy 7.03 build 03

Ideas???

No response from Triangle on this yet.

I was able to get it going by doing full removal of Java and Tri software from the PC, using CC cleaner to remove all Triangle and Java traces and doing clean install from the Internet. Now it is working.

Gary Dickerson gave the suggestion to use CC Cleaner and remove all old Tri software along with Java when he has had similar Tri software issues -Thanks Gary!!

Now install on my laptop windows 7, 32 bit.

Using TL7. Connecting to PLC with RS232.  Shows communication link set up OK.

When I try to down load program to PLC download over write question comes up, when I say yes it quickly flashes downloading window and never transfers program.

I removed and  reloaded java - no change. Using server 3.18A, Java version 1.4.2_19 from install CD

Ideas?

Thanks for this simple refresher in basic ladder editing. I knew I had done this in the past but just had a mind block on the details.

If I have several contacts on a single rung and I wish to add a single contact that "bridges" or parallels the series contacts (effectively removing the series contact state from the rung) . I don't seem to be able to find the method for creating such a contact or editing a contact to get this result.

Thanks
