Technical support / Fx2424 PLC backwards compatible with T100MD2424
« on: December 09, 2019, 01:30:14 PM »
Hi,

Is the Fx2424 PLC backwards compatible with T100MD2424? I have had a bunch on inputs (including high speed counters) fail on an old T100MD2424 and was looking to replace with a Fx2424 but don't want to have to reinvent the wheel, reprogramme, commission, etc.

Thanks

Technical support / FMD88 D/A#3 and D/A#4
« on: February 11, 2017, 02:09:47 PM »
Hi, I have had to swap an old T100MD888 with a new FMD88 but had an issue with the analogue input values I was reading. From what I can see from the connection wiring the only difference is that our application connects the future D/A's #3 and #4(pins 10 and 11)  to 0V as that is what these pins were on the T100MD888.

Would this be the cause of the spurious analogue input readings I now get? If not, are there other differences (software and hardware) that I should be made aware of when swapping a MD888 with a FMD88?

Thanks.

Technical support / DO Issue
« on: July 11, 2016, 01:27:06 AM »
Hi,

I have a FMD88-10 (Rev 3) which is showing something unusual. Digital outputs 1-4 aren't working correctly and when energised in the code, they don't turn on (sometimes they flicker) but the RTC error light flickers.

Any ideas what the cause may be?

Thanks

Technical support / Output Fail
« on: April 28, 2015, 11:33:49 PM »
I have had a situation with an FMD88 where I could still communicate via ethernet and monitor the status of inputs but when I tried to activate outputs through my SCADA interface, the physical outputs didn't turn on but the status read back from the PLC showed that they were activate. This would imply that the code was still functioning as there is logic that maps SCADA commands to outputs but the physical outputs didn't trigger.

I re-powered the PLC multiple times and it made no difference. After leaving the PLC off for 30 minutes or so and turning back on again, it seems to be functioning correctly. I have not been able to replicate the issue since.

I can't say for sure but I don't think the RTC Error light was on while I had the problem. Any ideas?

Technical support / Maximum PLC ID for Modbus RTU
« on: August 01, 2014, 04:42:34 PM »
I remember reading before that the PLC ID's were only valid up to a limit when using MODBUS RTU. I can't find this reference anymore, could you please confirm what this?

Thanks

Technical support / RF Noise
« on: April 29, 2013, 12:03:02 AM »
Hello,

We have a number of T100MD888+ installed in remote sites that communicate over a VHF radio network. We have always noticed at some sites that there has been some interference to the radio that we have always considered as being from an external source. Recently this level of interference has become problematic and we have employed RF consultants to investigate the issue. The result is that the interference is coming from the T100MD888+ PLC and more accurately their "RF sniffer" identified the noise emanating from the CPU.

Our radios work in the VHF spectrum at around 150MHz. I was originally skeptical to the PLC being the issue but based on their analysis, I tend to agree (i.e., removing power from PLC stops the source of interference).

Are you aware of this product generating RF interference? Do you have any recommendations as to how we could reduce this interference? It is unusual that it would seem that things have degraded over time (although that could be explained by other influences) but is there anything within the PLC that may degrade and cause RF noise?

Any help, as always, is greatly appreciated.

Technical support / Modbus delay
« on: July 01, 2012, 11:41:40 PM »
I am having an issue with a radio network that is echoing the scada master modbus rtu read command and is confusing the scada which interprets the echo as a failed modbus transmission. To get around this we may need to delay the master to look for a response afer a longer delay.

What is the delay time in the fmd88 plc between receiving a modbus read request and responding? Is this delay configurable at all?

Do you have any other ideas of how this issue may be resolved?

Technical support / Fmd88 outputs toggle at power on
« on: June 13, 2012, 06:08:47 PM »
I have noticed with the fmd88 that outputs 7 and 8 briefly turn on when the plc is powered up. For my application this briefly toggles a heater relay so no harm done but for other applications this could be a significant hazard.

Is this a known issue?

Technical support / Logical Comparison Limit
« on: April 30, 2012, 11:43:51 PM »
Is there a limit to the number of logical comparisons that can be used in an IF statement?

E.g.,

IF A=1 OR B=1 OR .........Z=1 THEN

Technical support / FMD88 Analogue Inputs
« on: April 21, 2012, 04:09:22 PM »
I have started using the FMD88 PLC for the first time and have experienced some anomalies with the analogue inputs. After some fault finding, it looks like some of the channels may be using a different averaging constant. I indentified this as I need to sample AI channels only once after an event where the AI value from the sensor is latched, read by the PLC and then cleared back to 0. When the PLC reads the value I noticed that the values of ADC 4 and 6 were half of ADC3 and 5 respectively when they should be the same and the voltage in to the PLC was correct.

I think this can be explained by the averaging constant being set. This PLC is fresh out of the box and after looking at the AI calibration it looks like values the ADC Calib and the avg constant have been set. What should these settings be when shipped from the factory?

It doesn't look like the averaging constant can be set per channel so I can't understand why some readings are correct and others aren't.

Technical support / Planned Obsolescence
« on: April 01, 2011, 03:43:35 PM »
I have some up coming projects which may require a reasonable number of PLC's. I'm interested to know what TriLogi's planned obsolescence, continued support and backwards compatability policies are, especially with respect to the M and F series of PLC.

Technical support / Modbus TCP & broadcast

Is it possible to use Modbus TCP on a F-series PLC as a slave and use send commande using Modbus broadcast mode from the master?

Technical support / RAM Failure
« on: January 09, 2011, 08:23:58 PM »
I had a T100MD PLC fail today on site. Upon inspection the only noticible thing was that RTC Error light was OFF. A reset of the PLC didn't fix the issue.

I swapped the RAM chip with a spare I had and the PLC appears as good as new. I'm interested to know what could have caused the RAM chip to fail, as I have quite a few of these PLC's in operation. It has been in service for about 3 years.

Technical support / MODBUS/Coms issue
« on: November 24, 2010, 06:42:36 PM »
I have a strange thing happening where randomly, the T100 PLC will stop communicating with a PC set up as the MODBUS master.

Rebooting the PLC has no effect. If I depower, switch DIP4 on, repower, switch DIP4 off, communications work again.

Does this make any sense?

Technical support / RS232 port close time
« on: August 18, 2010, 02:41:59 AM »
I have a F1616 PLC that is polled via modbus on COM1 (RS232) from a master device. The master reads and writes data.

Is there a recomended delay between a read and the subsequent write commands(and vice versa). I have the problem where I sometimes fail to write and I assume it is because there isn't a long enough delay.
