Technical support / Excellink and Print#
« on: May 20, 2015, 07:35:41 PM »
Hi. Can both ExcelLink and Print# be run together? When I enable Excellink, most of the print# is written to a text file in fileservice directory but I do see some data missing at times. Is it possible that Excellink is using the port while MD888 is trying to write to file, hence the missing data?

Hi Gary. Since switch is needed, I'm wondering if I can use a relay to control which line I want to sniff on.

Is it possible to put the i7017 on the same port and request data from it during a period when the serial port is not sending any data? Will the data from i7017 be corrupted?

Hi Gary. It's very nice of you to offer me a solution. First time I'm using incomm and I'm still learning everyday. I'm planning to use md888 as a logger to log both tx and rx data from dte to dce. Any idea how to make a sniffer cable for the purpose? I've tried connecting pin 3 of dte to pin 3 of Dce and pin 3 of md together. I managed to get the data from dte. Now how do I get data from dce? An idea? Will diode in the cable help?

Hi. Is there any way to read non CR terminated ascii string sent from PC? Had open a hyperterminal on PC 1. The letters that I typed are not shown in A$ when Input$(1) is run. When I send a text file from hyperterminal and rerun input$(1), the letters and content of the text file appears in A$. Any idea how to work around it? Greatly appreciate it if there's a way to make it work. Thanks.

Technical support / Com port 1

Hi. I intend to connect com port 1 of MD888 to a computer system 9 pin com port. The computer will output the following string:

send: run 1
recv: pass run 1
send: run 2 111
56789
999
no
yes

recv: pass run 2

1) Can I capture 56789 and 999 into string and send them through excel link?

Hi. Any way to have code inside excel to open both tp server and excel link? Or any way to hide all the programs and open only excel to link with Plc? Too many windows look too unprofessional

Hi Guys. Any idea how to write an excel macro that will copy cell a1 to cell b1, a2, to b2, a3 to b3, when cell a3 = 1? Thinking of using Excel Link to read dm[1], dm[2] and dm[3] every second into cell a1, a2, a3 of excel.

Hi. I think I have an excel macro problem. I want to capture dm[20] to dm[30] when dm[1] = 1. I'm using excel link to grab data every 1 second. When dm[1] =1, dm[20] to dm[30] is not being copied from their original dm cell to another cell. Any idea how to do it?

Hi. By using Excel link, can excel worksheet be updated only when dm[1] change and not by the constant checking?

Hi. Got it sorted out. Thanks. Another question. Can I run a first scan to get date and time from TL server on my MD888 whenever it is powered up?

Hi. I had used excel link with excel 2003 with no problem. However, when I switched to excel 2010, I encountered a problem. When I open an excel file with name aaa.xls and put aaa.xls in the open excel file name, there is an error. When I open an excel file book 1.xls, it will auto open a new workbook book 2.xls and run with no issue. Any idea how to make it use a determined workbook?

Hi Guys. Thanks for the input. I'm wondering if there will be noise introduced into the system if I use a 15 core data cable with aluminium wrap for FMD88 to communicate with the load cell amplifier. I'll be having 4 adc signal in the same cable. In addition, it will have 0 ref and Vcc in the same cable too.

From the load cell amplifier, I have 3 cable. 1 is analogue, 1 is com, and 1 is shield. Do I connect com and shield to the 0v ref?

Hi. I'm using i7017 to take reading from 4 lvdt. However, the timing allowed is only approximately 0.4s. Possible to get a goodand stable reading?  I've tried using only 1 analog channelp of  fmd88 to take stable readings but there are approximately 11 units of fluctuation. Any idea how to get repeatable and accurate results?

Hi. Was fiddling with 0.htm instead of the file that you sent. Will try that out. Some questions though.

1) how can I write a few dm to a single line in the text file using write?
2) can I create the text file in another directory instead of file service directory provided?
3) is TLserver needed if I need to append to a text file?

Thank you.
