Title: F2424 channels
Post by: DAlgie on June 13, 2012, 09:14:43 PM
With this project we have an FMD1616 and a Nano connected via RS485 network. Also have the MMI6080 display on the network. It is supposed to run 2 stepper motors and 4 PWM devices. I was not aware that these cannot all run off one FMD1616. So, for an upgrade in the future I was looking into buying the F2424. My question would be, can the F2424 run 3 steppers, step and direction only fed into Geckodrives, and 4 PWM devices all at once? Does it have the channel capacity to do this? Thanks in advance.

Please refer to Chapter 6 of the F2424 User's Manual:

The output 5 to 8 are the PWM outputs and these are also use by the first channel of F2424 stepper motor. So if you are using the PWM then you only have 2 stepper motor channels left.

In your original setup with 1 FMD1616-10 and Nano-10 working together, it may be possible to run two stepper motor on the FMD1616 and 2 PWM on the Nano-10 (FMD1616-10 instruct Nano-10 to output the PWM via RS485). Nano-10 can also be configured to drive 4 PWM outputs if you bypass the two relays (output 3 & 4) and short the two solder pads below the Nano-10 PCB so that the MOSFET driver drives the output directly.
