RS485 data isolation
«

Hi,
Can you tell me who makes a good rs485 optical isolation repeater. I
want to isolate my plc's (tmd100) RS485 network from dangerous ground potentials.
Thanks,
Al

B&B Electronics makes RS485 adapter so you may like to check with them if they have what you want.
If price is less of a concern than robustness, you can use RS485 to Optical fiber converter and communicate between PLCs using optical fiber. That will be total isolation between two plants. See the following webpage for an example:
http://www.tri-plc.com/ioboard.htm
When you visit the page, scroll down to see the bottom half of the page regarding the RS485 to Fiber-optic converters.

Thanks - I will take a look at BB electronics. Fibre optics is not an option for me but will keep in mind
for the future.
