Stepper motor driver interface
« on: September 10, 2004, 08:26:05 AM »
Hi :)

I'm trying to figure out a way to interface a unipolar
stepper motor to my T100MD. Please bear with me as
I'm a novice in the field.
I have a UNC5804 stepper motor driver and as I understand it I dont need a LM555 counter for pulsing this stepper because the controller can do it ( output 5 or 6 ).
BTW if you have any shematic on how to interface the UNC5804 to the T100MD i would be very grateful.
The stepper motor is a unipolar ( 6 wires, 1.2A/phase ).

Best regards,

Rob

You should try to obtain a data sheet for your IC driver to find out how to connect the driver to the stepper motor.

Note that the PLC output is NPN type which means it sinks current when ON and float to 24V when off. This is not very suitable for direct connection to IC driver, which typically expect TTL level input. You can however use an optocoupler or an IC inverter to convert the signal.
