Voltage spike Protection for E10

We are experimenting with a E 10 PLC on a large Diesel motor (earthmoving Equipment). We need to put some protection in place. The voltage is 24VDC. We added a surge suppressor and a voltage regulator. This did the job of protection but did not survive!

Any ideas?
