CAN bus support on Super PLCs?
« on: July 16, 2014, 11:54:41 AM »
I have been working with the Fx1616-BA super PLC.  I noticed that there is a connector and a socket for a CAN bus transceiver on the main PCB.

Will support for CAN bus be added to the super PLC family?

I have a customer that is asking?

Best regards

Gary D.

Current firmware does not utilize the CAN bus hardware yet. Having just low level CAN bus support is not that useful unless it is paired with a higher level protocol support such as CANopen, J1939 or DeviceNet. So far there has not been enough demand for any of these from our users to justify the cost in developing the support for the protocols.

Thank you for getting back to me.

I have worked with 3 different clients that were looking for CAN bus connectivity for the PLC.  Most recently the client was looking for CANopen.  Another was looking for NEMA-2000 (proprietary CAN dialect used on marine vessels).  The 3rd was looking a J1939.
