using inputs and outputs in cmos level
« on: December 13, 2006, 10:14:28 AM »
Hi,

Recenly I branch a exp4040 board to my plc.
On this board there are 16 inputs and outputs in cmos level.
Now I won't to know:

Can I use these inputs in the same way as the digital inputs and branch directly to a switch are push bottem to make the contact?

How can I use the outputs  (in the same way as the digital outputs) so I can swith power or a relay.

Thanks in advance.
GREGOR

You can connect two wires of a push button switch to the CMOS input pin and the ground pin and closure of the switch will turn on the CMOS input. You do have to take care that the switch is mounted on a metal panel so that there is no static buildup which can damage a CMOS chip if there is a large electrostatic discharge when a human touches the button.

As for the CMOS output, you need to connect to a transistor or IC driver. The simplest is ULN2003A which gives 0.5A current per output. You can also use MOSFET such as IRL530N to switch large current output.
